Common FAQs About Water Conditioning Systems

Las Vegas homes and businesses have a lot of options for water treatment. One option misunderstood by many is water conditioning systems. Many think they are like water filters or a different type of water softener. The truth is that a water conditioner is its own category of water treatment system. A conditioning system might solve some of the same problems as other water treatment systems, but they are different. This post will look at some of the common FAQs for water conditioning systems.

Water Conditioning Systems FAQ

What is water conditioning?

Water conditioning is a type of water treatment that involves removing or neutralizing minerals or chemicals in the water. Our water conditioners serve as an alternative to water softeners. Instead of softening the water, the conditioning process neutralizes the mineral content.

What are the benefits?

A water conditioner will offer many of the same benefits you would expect from a softener. It can protect pipes, fixtures, and appliances from scale buildup. A water conditioner can also relieve many issues associated with using hard water clean. That means fewer issues with cloudy or spotted glassware, and you won’t have to use as much water to clean.

Why not install a water softener instead?

A water softener will be the perfect solution for many homes. With that said, it will not be the right choice for everyone. One reason is that many people do not like the feel of softened water. It can feel slicker and somewhat slimy on your skin.

How does it work?

Water softeners use the process of ion exchange to remove minerals from water. With the water conditioners we use, a reaction neutralizes the minerals. The conditioning media contains small polymer beads. The beads act as a catalyst to crystallize the mineral content in the water. The crystallized minerals can pass through plumbing systems and appliances without building up. This treatment process solves some of the key problems of hard water without removing the minerals.

Why is salt-free important?

The ion exchange process in water softeners releases a small amount of sodium into the water. You won’t taste it, but it can cause issues. For example, the sodium content of the water can cause the water to feel slimy.
