Do You Know What’s In Your Tap Water?

In Las Vegas, the majority of drinking water originates from Lake Mead, primarily supplied by the Colorado River's snowmelt, with the remainder coming from local groundwater aquifers. However, there are several contaminants of concern in the water supply:

  • Lead: Detected in about 10% of sampled water, with levels reaching up to 5.6 parts per billion.

  • PFAS: Found in groundwater near military bases, with concentrations as high as 47,400 parts per trillion.

  • Arsenic: Varies across the city, with some areas exceeding the recommended limits.

  • Disinfection Byproducts: Levels have surpassed EPA maximum levels, potentially affecting bladder and kidney health.

  • Uranium and Chromium 6: Present in varying concentrations, both associated with hazardous health effects.

These findings highlight the need for ongoing monitoring and potential treatment of Las Vegas's water supply to ensure its safety and quality.
